Beacon, NY – The sliding glass doors of the Wingate Medical Center opened. In my hand I clutched a piece of paper with “mineral ice,” written messily in blue pen. I massaged my forehead and reached for my Nokia cell phone. On the screen was, “1 missed call.” Behind me I heard the quick click, clack of high heels. I turned around and was hit in the gut by a pharmaceutical representative’s brown leather bag full of drugs. She yelled ‘sorry’ and click, clacked to her car. Always in a rush, I thought. I rubber my side and sighed.
The mineral ice was for my sore muscle (not from the pharm rep.), this blog was for the dementia. Doctor ________ gave me a grim outlook but said, “Crossword puzzles, reading the news, exercising the mind–stuff like that” will keep my mind fresh.
Ultimately, this blog is a way for me to remember times at Syracuse and anywhere else I end up.
I got to get back to my sudoku, crossword puzzle, chess and Melville’s “Moby Dick.”
