Syracuse, NY — In graphics class this week we had to take a real magazine article and redesign it using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. The photos used in the redesign could not be from the article we chose. Instead, we had to scour the internet and earth for old magazines we could scan or high quality photos (above 3 megapixel ) we could use off the internet.
For my project I used an article on Blink 182 that was by Scott Heisel on Blink 182. It was from Alternative Press magazine.
For my photos I first looked for old Rolling Stone magazines at the Syracuse library. A nice old lady librarian in a silk scarf showed me some books on 1970′s rock and jazz. These books were not going to cut it. I didn’t want to make her feel bad so I glanced over some of the selections and smiled. After a little while the librarian left, then I left.
The next places I tried were two used book stores on James St. I found them one day when I was out getting a chocolate frosty from Wendy’s. Back in the darkest corners of both stores were amazing collections of Saturday Evening Post and Look magazines but no Rolling Stone. I returned to my apartment and used the revamped Google Images as a last resort. Within minutes I found three images.
Since the project was worth 20% of our final grade, I spent 22 of the last 48 hours working on it.
