Syracuse, NY -- Two laptops and two speakers rest on top of a folding table. The rest of the stage is empty. A loud indistinguishable noise starts to play from the wall of black speakers. Over 4,000 students rush the stage as a long haired man appears. He’s wearing maroon sweat pants, a blue sweatshirt and a white headband. The blanket of white clouds parts as the man yells, “Syracuse University!, Check, check, check. We all right right now. Welcome back to school everyone.” The crowd erupts into cheer. Music starts to play as the kids next to me fires up a roach. Over two dozen students run on stage, smiling. They start dancing as the long haired man leans over the laptops. The pockets of his sweat pants are inside-out.
The man’s name is Gregg Gillis, better know as Girl Talk. He came to rock.
