Albany, NY — “Man on Wire” is an awe inspiring documentary that tells the story of a man who lived his life on the edge.
The film follows Philippe Petit, a French man who walks on a high-wire between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on Aug. 7, 1974. This is not your average documentary. It is a work of art that captures the dream of a man who dared to live his life on the wire that he loved. Petit’s facial expressions, hand movements and the overall narration of the events will makes you feel as if you were on the wire with him
The build up to the World Trade Center walk is one of best parts of the film.
Petit describes walking across the towers of the Notre Dame and the pylons on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. He talks about his life of “climbing things” and the countless hours spent doing what he loves, tight rope walking. It is like he is experiencing the world from a different view, Petit said. His friends share in his passion and decide to help in his quest to conquer the world’s greatest towers.
As a born and raised New yorker, the film was a bitter sweet reminder of what the towers looked like. The photographs and video clips shot from the top were breath taking.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who is following their dreams or searching for inspiration.
