Syracuse, NY — A brief bundt history:
- 1901: Aspiring cook Lizzie Black Kander mentions the word “bundt” for the first time in a cookbook for Milwaukee’s first settlement.
- 1950: H. David Dalquist, creates the Bundt cake pan for “easy cake cutting.”
- 1966: A bundt cake wins second place in Pillsbury sponsored baking contest.
- 2005: Dalquist dies from a heart ailment.
- 2006: Nordic Ware, Dalquist’s cookware company, officially calls for Nov. 15 to be National Bundt Day.
- 2007: Smithsonian Institution adds original bundt cake pans to its collection of historical knickknacks.
- 2009: The Beastie Boys’ 8th studio album, “Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1″ to feature a song titled “Bundt Cake.”
- 2010: Post-Standard reporter Catie O’Toole bakes a delicious strawberry bundt cake for my belated birthday.
